House That! Fortescue Metal Group’s chief Dino Otranto and wife Lauren sell Mt Lawley home for $3.7 million

Fortescue Metals chief Dino Otranto and wife Lauren had a short but sweet stay in Mt Lawley after recently selling their home a little over a year after purchasing it. Otranto and wife Lauren sold the five-bedroom property for $3.725 million in September, about 13 months after they bought it for $2.98m. Photos of adverts for the two sales listings show no structural changes to the home over that period, but it is understood the pair spent hundreds of thousands on upgrades. While Otranto is in charge of the iron ore side of the Fortescue business rather than the green side, his carbon-conscious boss Andrew Forrest would no doubt be pleased to learn of his planet-friendly upgrades. It includes a new 20KM solar power system and a Tesla battery as well as a whopping $25,000 spent on LED lights alone. That is a big electricity saving across a home with 500sqm of living space. The pair also turned the portion of the home into a wellness retreat, with a new spa, a new custom-built timber sauna and a miniature basketball court. They also transformed the 20m lap pool from chlorine to magnesium — as is all the rage right now — and added solar-power heating. According to the listing photos, the bathrooms and the kitchen were largely untouched between sales, which may explain the gas cooktop. These rooms were likely next on the list of refurbishments before the pair fell in love with a riverfront property in Bassendean stretching across nearly 4000sqm. The home was sold via agent Chris Pham of Belle Acton.
