Town of Cambridge given opportunity to comment on multi-million-dollar developments in City Beach and Wembley

Cambridge council will have an opportunity to comment on two multi-million developments proposed for Perth’s western suburbs during its upcoming meeting in February. There had been concerns that consultation on proposals for mid-rise developments in City Beach and Wembley would close before the council’s first meeting of 2025, scheduled for February 25. However the Department of Planning Lands and Heritage this week confirmed the council has until February 26 for Wembley and February 28 for City Beach — and a town spokesperson said that time would be useful. “The Town will present both applications to the February Council meeting for Council’s endorsement of the Town’s position on each proposal, which will then be provided to the State Government,” they said. The general public has until February 10 and February 17 respectively to provide feedback on the plans for a seven-storey apartment complex in Cambridge Street and a separate plan for three buildings between four and six storeys at the site of City Beach’s Ocean Gardens Retirement Village. Eight villas at the retirement village would be demolished to to make way for one of the four-storey buildings with 24 units. Additional four and six-storey buildings are proposed for a nearby vacant lot under the $48.9 million combined development plan. These would include 31 more multiple dwelling units, parking bays and other amenities. The Cambridge Street Wembley application, lodged by owners of the side-by-side blocks, is for a seven-storey apartment complex in place of a row of shops that includes Pizzeria da Leo. The $24m development plans include 35 apartments, two ground floor commercial properties and 57 car bays at the ground and mezzanine levels. Plans show the heritage facade of local antique shop Bluebird Vintage to be retained.
