Beyond the Saleyards: Store lamb values ease as spring flush nears

Store lamb prices continue to find pressure across the country this week with the spring flush ramping up.

Store lambs in WA have eased with the increase in supply.

Crossbred lambs more than 30kg are bid $2.70, those more than 35kg are $2.80 and more than 38kg are $3.

On the heavier weights, these numbers are relatively comparable to the current bids of around $6.80/kg hot score carcase weight.

On the east coast, lambs are still bid $8 or better.

Store lamb prices have eased from those more than $4.

The spread between east and west is not quite wide enough to convince anyone except the larger corporate buyers to purchase large volumes out of WA yet.

Goat markets have continued to retreat with east coast prices around $3.50 to $4, depending on the location.

Cattle markets in WA are trading about $3.50 for local cattle.

On the east coast, export orders for Brahman steers and heifers are about $2.80.
