ADCA2024-25: Luke Hammond hundred leads Mt Barker to enormous victory over Railways in B-grade

Mt Barker’s Luke Hammond plundered a huge century as the Bulls demolished an inexperienced Railways side in round five of the Albany and Districts Cricket Association B-grade competition on Saturday.

After winning the toss and batting at Turf South, Bulls’ Luke Hammond belted 128 from 123 balls and whacked 16 fours and one six in his stirring innings as they posted a brilliant first-innings total of 6-266.

Luke Hammond and youngster Lucas Baker (32) combined for a mammoth 124-run fourth-wicket stand before Tigers’ Shannon T’Hart finally dismissed Luke Hammond when he was stumped.

Aggressive opener Jason Jones chipped in with 48 at the top of the order.

The Bulls then tore through the young Tigers batting line-up as Todd Hammond (3-13), Matthew Nelson, Baker and Luke Wheeler (all two wickets) played key roles with the ball.

Sam Slater (23) provided resilience with the bat before they were skittled for just 74 in the 31st over.

Denmark had a day out against Royals, as reliable batting pair Peter Ross and Matthew Burton carted the Lions’ bowlers to all parts of McLean Park.

Both sides were undefeated until Saturday, but the Magpies ensured the Lions were on the receiving end of a first loss as Peter Ross whacked 135 not out from 147 balls, while Burton smacked an unbeaten 115 from just 59 balls.

The pair smashed 20 fours and two sixes each as Magpies posted an eye-watering 1-324.

In reply, Teague Valli scored 97 from 66 balls with 11 fours and four sixes, but the Lions were eventually all out for 210 in the 40th over.

In the final B-grade match of the round, reigning premiers Manypeaks notched a five-wicket victory after chasing down Narrikup’s score of 122 in the 27th over.

Peaks captain Owen Smith led the way with 50 not out, while Riley Wood (3-22) and Wade Anning (3-16) were crucial with the ball.

In the C-grade competition, Royals copped a heavy defeat at the hands of Denmark in Denmark, as the Magpies crunched 3-317 to win by seven wickets.

Brendan Girak smashed 111 from 62 balls before retiring, while skipper Damian Schwarzbach made 50 and retired.

Ben Atwell scored 60 from 33 balls and Matt Hartfield was unbeaten on 42.

Lions’ Oliver Harrington played a lone hand with the ball, taking all three of their wickets to finish with figures of 3-58 from 5.3 overs.

Kyle Badger top-scored for the Lions with 76, and Girak finished with 4-13 as the visitors ended their 40 overs on 7-119.

Reigning C-grade premiers Collingwood Park defeated Manypeaks by 86 runs courtesy of a Dash Germinario century.

The talented young batter scored 107 not out from 121 balls to steer his side to a first-innings total of 7-197 before they then restricted Peaks to 7-111.

Narrikup defeated Railways by 71 runs thanks to a five-wicket haul from first-change bowler Bruce McDonald.

After posting 169, McDonald took 5-19 from six overs as Narrikup skittled the Tigers for 98 in the 28th over.

The ADCA will have an association-wide bye this weekend, resuming on Saturday November 30.
