GSFLW 2025: Mt Barker in the hunt for back-to-back grand finals, up against mighty Royals in preliminary final

Mt Barker and Royals will fight it out for the last spot in this year’s Great Southern Football League Women’s grand final, with the pair to clash in an exciting preliminary final on Friday night. The reigning premiers stayed on top all season, undefeated bar an abandoned game against the Lions in round nine due to a lighting issue before their shock qualifying final loss to Denmark-Walpole last week. The Lions remain the competition’s benchmark with three premierships under their belt from the six GSFLW seasons played, and will be looking to claim a grand final spot and the shot to add another flag to their collection. Bouncedown for the preliminary final will be at 6.45pm at Sounness Park on Friday night, giving the Bulls a second chance at home-ground glory in the finals and back-to-back appearances in the grand final. The visitors will be out to cause another upset and reach the decider for the second time in three years. The youth girls will play their preliminary final before the women’s, with bouncedown for the clash between the Magpies and Railways at 5.45pm. The Magpies will be chasing a win after losing to North Albany in the qualifying final, and the fourth-placed Tigers will be looking to earn their seat in the big game against all odds after defeating the Lions in the elimination final. The GSFLW competition will also be holding its annual awards on Saturday night, with the league’s best players for 2025 recognised in a ceremony at Retravision Stadium.
