Kayne Michael Dixon: Man given order for buying more than $5000 of fuel for private vehicles on company cards

A man who used company fuel cards to buy more than $5000 of fuel for private vehicles — including a boat — has been served a community-based order. Kayne Michael Dixon appeared in Albany Magistrates Court on Thursday charged with gaining a benefit by fraud and two counts of stealing as a servant. The 38-year-old was working for a bulk transport company in 2024 when he used two company fuel cards to buy $5367 of fuel for his own car, a friend’s vehicle and a boat. Police prosecutor Sgt Dylan Fisher told the court that from September 9 to November 5, Dixon used BP and Ampol fuel cards intended for the company ute to refuel private vehicles more than 15 times. On one occasion, he spent $4550 to fill up a 1000-litre boat. On October 10, Dixon used the self-pay console at Ampol Albany Diesel Stop in Willyung to purchase fuel for a co-accused’s car. When Dixon was arrested on November 31, he denied committing the offences. Defence lawyer Lucy Bourne said Dixon was “in a poor state” at the time of the crimes and has since successfully undergone the alcohol and drug diversion program. Sgt Fisher said the “deliberate, systematic and planned” offences were a “significant breach of trust” and deserving of a jail term. Magistrate Erin O’Donnell said the “substantial” sum of fuel stolen was quite serious and admitted that such offences were usually dealt with by way of imprisonment but opted to impose a 10-month community-based order instead. He was ordered to pay $2683 — half of the fuel stolen — to compensate his former employer.
