Kieran Bruce Strickland: Bremer Bay man fined for trespassing on shire land to release dogs caught by ranger

A Bremer Bay man has been fined for trespassing on Shire of Jerramungup property to release his dogs after they were caught by rangers and for threatening to punch staff. Kieran Bruce Strickland, 29, was convicted in Albany Magistrates Court on Thursday under section 55 after he failed to appear in court and an arrest warrant was issued. Police prosecutor Sgt Dylan Fisher told the court a Shire of Jerramungup ranger was called to pick up two untethered and unsupervised dogs that were “worrying sheep” in Bremer Bay on March 16. The ranger seized one of the dogs in their vehicle and put it in a shire-owned yard. The 29-year-old entered the yard soon after, ignoring a sign that indicated the area was restricted to shire employees, and released the dog from the fenced-off area. The ranger, who was returning to the yard with the second dog, saw Strickland leaving the site with the released dog. Strickland turned around and approached the ranger’s vehicle and released the second dog from the car’s canopy before threatening to punch the ranger. The incident was captured on CCTV. Magistrate Sarah Oliver said the offence was a “serious example” of trespassing, given that Strickland entered the premises twice and threatened the ranger. She fined him $1200 with costs of $300.50.
