WestCycle and Mt Barker Mountain Bike Club partner to host successful Pwakkenbak Trails open day

Mountain bikers flocked to Tower Hill in Mt Barker on Friday to explore the stunning scenery in the newly opened and long-awaited Pwakkenbak Trails.
The open day on March 28 was hosted jointly by WestCycle and the Mt Barker Mountain Bike Club and had riders of all ages and skill levels venture through the trails’ 10km network.
Volunteers from the MBMBC led guided rides through the Yonga, Wardong, Kurra and Noorn trails while offering tips on technique, safety and trail etiquette.

Riders also had a chance to brush up on their skills in workshops hosted by CycleSense chief executive and bike instructor Chris Thompson.
WestCycle schools manager Josh Curulli said he was “thrilled to see such a positive turnout”.
“The event truly showcased the spirit of community and the accessibility of mountain biking for all ages and skill levels,” he said.
“It was fantastic to see families, groups of friends and individuals enjoying the trails together.”
Attendees were treated to complimentary refreshments to fuel them up before their ride, including coffee, hot chocolates, cakes, and sandwiches.
The project was a partnership between the Shire of Plantagenet and the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions and lobbied for by the Mt Barker mountain biking community.
Award-winning Perth-based firm Three Chillies Design was awarded the design contract for the Pwakkenbak Trails in 2023.
