Cable Beach has been closed after a crocodile was seen lurking about three metres off the shoreline.

Parks and Wildlife ordered lifeguards to close the beach after the two-metre reptile was spotted at 1.30pm today.

Broome Beach Hut Hire owner Daryl Roberson said the animal was slowly heading north, towards Willy Creek.

“Unfortunately, things like this happen,” he said.

“I hope the rangers and the department of Parks and Wildlife are proactive in dealing with this situation so things can return to normal as soon as possible.”

Signs warning people to stay out the water have been erected and it is understood the beach will be closed for the remainder of the day.
