Harold Lewis Nardi: Man who threatened to kill 13-year-old girl after he indecently touched her jailed

A man who threatened to kill a 13-year-old girl if she told police he indecently touched her in a remote Kimberley community has been sentenced to 12-months imprisonment. Harold Lewis Nardi appeared before Broome District Court on October 16 charged with one count of indecently dealing with a child under 16. The court heard the 37-year-old entered the victim’s grandmother’s house via unknown means while the victim was asleep and laid on her bed. The young girl woke up to find Mr Nardi lying on her bed with his hands rubbing her upper leg, quickly pushing him away from her. Mr Nardi then offered her some cannabis before threatening to kill her if she told police of the incident. She ran away to a family member’s house and told them what happened. Judge Andrew Steven Stavrianou acknowledged Mr Nardi had a difficult background plagued by domestic violence and limited education, but condemned his actions towards a girl with a significant age gap. “People are entitled to sleep in their beds and not be the victim of assaults as occurred in this case,” he said. “This was a young, vulnerable girl.” Judge Stavrianou stated while the crime was not the most serious case of indecent dealing, a term of immediate imprisonment was the only proper response to the offending.
