Bailey Banfield helps Dockers onto six game winning streak with stellar performance
Broome’s own Bailey Banfield had a stellar performance over the weekend, being named one of the Fremantle Dockers best players for the match and helping them continue their winning steak.
Banfield took to the field this week after the Dockers lost six players to health and safety protocols and wasted no time, making the most of the opportunity and thumping two goals in the first term.
He went on to kick two behinds in the third and another behind in the opening minutes of the fourth quarter, making a total of 18 disposals throughout the match, securing the North Melbourne Kangaroos defeat to the Dockers by 78 points, 15.12 (102) to 3.6 (24).
The win takes Fremantle’s winning streak to six games in a row this season.
The Gold Coast Suns managed to scrape victory over the Sydney Swans in the last quarter on Saturday after being the better team for most of the match.
Halls Creek’s Jy Farrar for the Gold Coast Suns made 15 disposals over the course of the game, booting 11 kicks and catching eight marks.
Sydney had managed to catch up and match the Suns score by the end of the third term but it wasn’t enough for the Swans to steal the victory with Gold Coast wining by 14 points, 10.15 (75) to 8.13 (61).
Halls Creek’s Sam Petrevski-Seton and Derby’s Callum Ah Chee went up against each other in the Brisbane Lions and West Coast Eagles clash on Saturday night with the Eagles earning themselves another crushing defeat.
Callum Ah Chee continued to show off his skills, helping the Lions on to victory by making 12 kicks, seven marks and laying three tackles throughout the game, making a total of 19 disposals.
Petrevski-Seton put in another good effort in his second outing after returning from an injury making 12 disposals for the Eagles but the Lions came out on top winning by 75 points, 16.9 (105) to 4.6 (30).
Another two players from the Kimberley went head to head on the weekend with Broome’s Jack Martin taking on Halls Creek’s Shane McAdam in the Carlton Blues victory over the Adelaide Crows.
Shane McAdam put in an impressive performance for the Crows kicking two goals in the second and last quarters, making a total of 11 disposals for Adelaide over the match.
Jack Martin also had a shot at goal but missed, kicking a behind for Carlton and making just two disposals for the Blues.
Despite the Crows best efforts the Blues dominated the match from the first to last term, winning by 48 points, 17.14 (116) to 10.8 (68).
Unfortunately there was no sign of Broome’s Joel Hamling for the Fremantle Dockers in their match against the North Melbourne Kangaroos.
