It was a round of surprises in the Broome Cricket Association season this week, with unexpected wins across the board and a century smash.

In the first game of the round, Roebuck Cricket Club chose to bowl after winning the toss, a decision they’re sure to regret after Dirty Dozen’s openers started to smash the ball left, right and centre.

Opener Riley Ford smashed 47 runs off 51 balls, including four 4s and a six before he was finally bowled by Roebuck’s Damien King.

While not quite as fast as their predecessor, Scott Hanna and Troy Douglas followed with relative consistency, scoring 18 and 14, respectively.

After a few quick ducks, Roebuck’s chance of winning seemed to improve, Dirty Dozen ending their batting 109-9.

It wasn’t all triumph for Dirty Dozen, with Roebuck bowlers Jordan Binns and Troy Oldfield securing a maiden each and Ryley Alexander knocking five wickets.

But it wasn’t enough, as Roebuck fell short after their first three batsmen scored a total of eight runs combined and finished with 70-7 across 20 overs.

In other games, Mangrove once again proved they were this season’s force, beating Broome Pearlers with 168-5 across 20 overs.

This was despite the mighty efforts of the Pearlers’ batsman Keiran Moustoukas who made an impressive half century.

Pearlers finished with 135-5 across 20 overs, leaving them in the wake of this season’s number one.

In B-grade division, Roebuck met the same fate as their A-grade team, stuck out by Dirty Dozen’s formidable batsman.

Dirty Dozen’s Mitchell Blackley was the star of the show, scoring over a century with 107 runs against 72 balls.

The game finished with Dirty Dozen in the lead with 166-2 across 20 overs against 59 across 15.4 overs.

And Mangrove’s B-grade team also struck an impressive win finishing with 122-5 across 20 overs against Broome Pearlers who finished with 113-8 across 20 overs.
