Broome, Fitzroy Crossing, Derby and Bidyadanga tipped to benefit from State Government’s Energy Ahead program

Broome, Fitzroy Crossing, Derby and Bidyadanga are set to benefit from the State Government’s Energy Ahead program, with potentially more remote communities across the West Kimberley to follow. Previously known as the Household Energy Efficiency Scheme, Energy Ahead works with vulnerable households so they can better understand and reduce their energy bills. Energy Policy WA will deliver the program alongside Horizon Power and Synergy, in partnership with local community service organisations including Nirrumbuk Environmental Health and Services and EPWA. Eligible households will be able to access personalised one-on-one coaching, tips for saving on their energy bills, an energy pack with items to help them save money and home visits from a program support worker. “Energy bills are just one of the many challenges that households struggle with when they find themselves experiencing financial hardship,” Energy Minister Reece Whitby said. “The Cook Government understands this, which is why we’re glad to extend this program to regional WA.” Kimberley MLA Divina D’Anna said it was amazing to see the program expanded regionally to support vulnerable West Kimberley households. “With the assistance of local organisations, Energy Policy WA will help these households better understand their energy use and develop practical solutions to reducing their energy bills,” she said. The State Government says the $13m initiative has already helped 1000 residents across the State.
