Passengers arriving in Broome will be met by shiny baggage belts and sparkling bathrooms after Broome International Airport unveiled its $7m arrival hall redevelopment recently.

The newly expanded arrivals terminal, which was built in collaboration with local Broome builder H&M Tracey, includes an additional 1100 square meters of space, a second baggage belt, two new bathroom facilities, and provisions for international border agencies to support future international services.

The $7m expansion took approximately 18 months to complete and is part of a larger planned upgrade to the airport, with recent improvements to the check-in hall and security screening areas.

To date, the total investment in the airport is in excess of $15m.

Opened by Deputy Premier and Tourism Minister Roger Cook on March 30, BIA chairman David Sauzier said the family-owned airport had always found chances of reinvesting in Broome, and the new terminal was no different.

BIA chief executive Craig Shaw said in addition to the redevelopment, the company were focused on securing commitment from the Federal Government for permanent border services to support its pursuit of international services.

“We will continue to focus our efforts, along with many co-operative stakeholders, to actively engage with airlines for new and additional services,” he said.

A final phase of terminal redevelopment is in the planning which will complete the terminal upgrades, with a revamp to the existing departure areas, including the food and beverage and retail outlets, on the cards.
