Broome Pearlers stay on top in massive round two victory
The Broome Netball Association’s best teams went head-to-head for the second time this season, competing for the top spot on the ladder in round two at the Broome Recreation and Aquatic Centre on May 2.
Starting the night off for the division one women’s competition, the undefeated Broome Pearlers asserted their dominance with near-perfect shooting accuracy in the opening quarter.
With the assistance of Pearlers’ C Simone Eddington guiding the ball towards the goal circle, GS Miquela Vos and GA Tehana Connelly comfortably brought their team ahead of the Towns with a 24-point lead by half-time.
Despite the Towns’ attempt at catching up with intensity and strong defensive efforts from GK Monique Fitzpatrick, they couldn’t quite tackle the Pearlers’ lead, going down 70-46.
Following the Pearlers’ dominant win against the Towns’, Broome Bullets and Cable Beach entered the courts to redeem themselves from their losses in last week’s round one.
Cable Beach began making strong attacks on goal and led throughout, hitting nothing but nets and doubling the Bullets’ score in each quarter.
Cable Beach’s GA Jo Fong made eye-catching deflections to land the ball in the hands of GS Lyeesha Mongoo.
Bullets’ GD Adi Cox displayed strong shielding techniques when surrounded by the opposition near the post, but ultimately couldn’t match Cable Beach’s shooting skills.
With a full-time score of 43-24, Cable Beach celebrated their victory and now face the Djugun Flames in Round three next week.
