Broome residents show off their whacky outfits and craziest dance moves for fun video by local creative

If there is one town you could rely on to let its hair down, smile and have some fun in the middle of a global pandemic, it is Broome. And that’s what the community did last week when a local videographer called for lights, camera, action, told families to don their whackiest outfits, come up with some quick moves on the spot and dance in their front yards. The result was a four- minute fun-filled video to the tune of the Michael Franti & Spearhead hit Say Hey I Love You that has been shared 350 times and racked up tens of thousands of views. Everyone from toddlers and school children to older couples took part in the cheerful project, aimed at spreading joy during COVID-19 restrictions. But it may have been Maggie Castle who stole the show, as she twirled around her garden in her overalls, funky sunglasses and flower hat, while her teddy bears watched on from the comfort of a deck chair in the shade. Videographer Matthew Adams, who would normally be busy filming and editing wedding memories, said he had a bit of spare time on his hands and wanted to come up with something to get the community together. “I thought of this little number I could throw together to spread a bit of joy,” he said. “I was happily surprised with how it all turned out, it is very Broome and I hope others see that. “The message behind it all is stay home, but at the same time stay engaged with your community and I think it did that.” Mr Adams, below, said although it was very spontaneous, it still required some planning and consultation. “I communicated with the families and gave them instructions on what to do when I turned up,” he said. “We organised a time together, I got their address and drove there and blasted the music out of the stereo, they came out and went for it.” The video can be viewed on the Surge Films — Broome Facebook page.
