Broome Triathlon Club’s kicks off first triathlon of 2023 season with bone-chilling swim at Cable Beach

The Broome Triathlon Club kicked off its first triathlon of the 2023 season with a bone-chilling swim as 30 determined triathletes plunged into the frigid waters of Cable Beach on May 28. Among the impressive performances, club president Jo Smallshaw emerged victorious in the female open enticer division, completing the race in an impressive time of 1 hour and 28 seconds. In the female primary enticer division, Grace Larkman secured the top spot with a remarkable time of 1hr 10min. 1sec. Tate Beatty displayed exceptional skills, winning the male primary enticer race in a swift 52min. 12sec. Matilda Beatty shone in the female secondary enticer division, finishing with a time of 52min. 8sec. Josh Smallshaw dominated the male secondary enticer division, crossing the finish line in a commendable 47min. 30sec. In the female open sprint race, Kodi Walski demonstrated her strength and speed, triumphing with a time of 1hr 32min. 27sec. Richard Harraway emerged victorious in the male open sprint division, completing the course in 1hr 16min. 34sec. Lachie Forster secured a notable win in the male secondary sprint race with a time of 1hr 12min. 9sec. In the team event, Michael Burnett, Nigel Perry and Bella Burnett formed a formidable trio, clinching victory in 50min. 25sec., with their impressive performance leaving the runner-ups trailing behind by a whole two minutes. Smallshaw thanked the participants and organisers for their contributions in making the event a resounding success. “A cold morning greeted the 30 competitors for the first triathlon of the season,” she said. “No doubt the competitors were warmed by the large number of supporters and spectators, who created a wonderful atmosphere on the day. “A big thank-you to committee and volunteers who set up, packed down and facilitated a well-run event. “Thanks also to Broome Surf Life Saving Club for the swim course and water safety.” Broome Triathlon Club’s next event will be held on June 26 at Cable Beach following the Kununurra Half Marathon on June 18.
