The 34-year-old Town Beach Cafe building is set to be redeveloped into a multimillion-dollar restaurant with the Shire of Broome set to offer a 21-year lease for the site.

The Shire hopes the new 500sqm venue will provide indoor and outdoor dining options for a minimum of 120 people with the cost estimated to be up to $5 million depending on the final design and size.

The existing 187sqm Town Beach Cafe site, which enjoys frontage on to one of Broome’s renowned beaches, has been sitting vacant since October 2022 when the Shire was unable to secure a new lease after the previous agreement expired.

The Shire of Broome is seeking expressions of interest from operators to lease the site with the Shire taking out advertisements in both The West Australian and The Broome Advertiser.

But the project is still a long way off with site development works and an operator yet to be contracted.

The development marks the final stage of the Guwarri Town Beach Foreshore Redevelopment Project.

Stages one and two of the redevelopment were completed in 2021 and 2022 for a total investment of $24m which included funding assistance from Lotterywest and the State Government.

The redevelopment has since gone on to win multiple awards including the top spot in the Great Place category at the Planning Institute of Australia’s 2022 National Awards for Planning Excellence.
