The Broome Recreation and Aquatic Centre’s three-event biathlon series returned with a big splash on Friday.

Almost 100 competitors gathered at the BRAC pools to compete in the first Dash and Splash event of 2019, with several familiar faces making a big impression on the track.

Short-course competitors took part in a 2km run, followed by a 200m swim while long-course competitors went on a 4km run followed by a 400m swim. In the individual events, Aidan Burns and Gemma Kent won the junior short-course event with times of 11min.20sec. and 12:57 respectively, Brendon McGregor and Millie Weston won the open short-course event in 12:42 and 14:15 respectively, Travis Campbell and Stevi Evans won the junior long course in less than 30 minutes, and Jesse Evans and Ellen Smith took out the open long-course event in 19:34 and 25:25 respectively.

Team events included the junior and open-age categories, as well as the return of the parent/child team category.

Several new teams emerged victorious on the day, including the combination of Jordan Binns and Talia Wilkinson in the junior category with a combined time of 10:52, Luke Saunders and Max Meiers in the open category with 24:01, and Scott and Matilda Beatty achieved a new record in the parent/child category with a time of 12:09.

The next Dash and Splash event will take place on Friday, April 12.
