First Broome Triathlon Club event for 2023 season draws 40 athletes

Broome Triathlon Club held its first meet of 2023 on March 31 down at the Broome Recreation and Aquatic Centre, which saw 40 fiercely competitive triathletes of all ages test their mettle.

In the short-course primary school-age girls’ division, Grace Larkman showed an impressive performance and emerged as the winner, completing the course in 17 minutes and three seconds.

High schooler Matilda Beatty won the high school-aged girls’ short course, clocking in 13min. 26sec.

In the open female division for the long course, Megan Flett proved to be the fastest crossing the finish line in 19:06 to secure the win.

In the male short course, Tate Beatty won the primary school-aged boys’ division with a time of 13:46.

Ben Richardson took the top spot in the high school-aged boys’ division, finishing the course in 13:05.

In the open male division, Steve Pratt emerged as the winner, finishing the course in 14:48.

Ruby Onofrio once again took out the top spot in the high school-aged girls’ long course, crossing the finish line in 24:55. Phoebe Thornton took the top spot in the female open class for the long course, coming in at 24:48.

In the male long course Lachlan Penegar won the high school boys’ division on 20:36 and Ben Goldie took home the win in the open division with 21:01.

In the teams course Nate Andrews and Ollie Burke won the primary school-aged boys’ division with a time of 16:19. Justyna Hardy and Katherine Telges won the open division crossing the line in 25:51.

“Well down to everyone, the competitors, committee, support crews, (it was a) great event to start the season,” Broome Triathlon Club organiser Jo Smallshaw said.

Broome Triathlon Club’s next event will be held at the BRAC on April 28.
