Four teenagers and a 40-year-old man have been charged after allegedly stealing three firearms from a gun safe in Derby.

The burglary was initially reported on September 17 after the owner of the firearms became aware of the theft but the burglary may have occurred in previous days.

Four juveniles and one adult male were taken into custody on September 18 in relation to the burglary after the three firearms were discovered by police in bushland within the Derby townsite.

During the course of the investigation it was also discovered the four juveniles had allegedly been involved in a separate burglary of a local hotel.

The two 17-year-olds, 15-year-old and 14-year-old boys have been charged with a host of offences including, aggravated home burglary, stealing, stealing by opening a locked box and aggravated burglary with intent on a place.

The 40-year-old man was charged with possessing of three or more firearms without a licence, possession of cannabis with intent to sell or supply and possession of stolen or unlawfully obtained property.

The four juveniles fronted Derby Children’s Court on September 20 with their cases adjourned until November 1 while the 40-year-old man is set to front the Derby Magistrate’s Court on October 4.
