Twelve local volleyball players recently swapped the sands of Victory Life Church for hard courts and knee pads when they ventured to Perth to compete in the 2018 Alcohol, Think Again WA State Championships.

Broome Volleyball competed in both the men’s and women’s competitions during the Queen’s Birthday long weekend in a Volleyball WA-hosted tournament open to all affiliated regional clubs and associations.

The two teams, sponsored by Jewels of the Kimberley and Allvolts Power Solutions, competed against clubs from across the State, including Busselton, Karratha, Mandurah, Esperance and Albany.

Broome’s women’s team enjoyed great success on the first day of competition, winning all their matches against Busselton and Lakelands, earning themselves a spot in the semifinals.

However, they lost their semifinal match-up, finishing within the top four teams. The men’s team struggled in a strong field, suffering losses to Busselton, Mandurah and the Karratha Scorchers.

Although Esperance were declared the champions of the tournament, all the Broome players said they were keen to continue trying their hand at indoor volleyball tournaments.
