A tight game between the Broome Basketball Associations two top teams — who were both undefeated heading into the bout — has seen the MpBoyz reign supreme over the Kings and assert their position as the team to watch.

The game continued along the same trajectory in the second with more fouls than baskets seeing the Kings one point ahead at the half-time break, 14-13.

The fouls continued in the third, with a number of MpBoyz transgressions allowing the Kings to rush out to a seven point lead, 20-13 in the first few minutes of the quarter.

Sensing the game getting away from them, the MpBoyz hit back, scoring eight unanswered points to regain the lead for about a minute, before Keano Nieass slotted home two baskets to see the third finish 23-22 to the Kings.

However, a fourth quarter collapse from the Kings proved decisive — the side unable to score a single point in the first eight minutes of the last quarter — allowing the MpBoyz to rapidly post an insurmountable 11-point lead.

Finally, with two minutes left in the quarter the Kings managed a basket, but it was too little too late, with the MpBoyz sweeping to a well-deserved 28-36 victory.

Damon Ernosa was again the stand-out player of the game, managing 10 points from five two-pointers — although he also committed four personal fouls.

The win means MpBoyz move two points clear at the top of the table, with Kings sitting in second place on 16 points.

The Misfits now sit fifth on equal points with fourth-placed Gantheaume Pointers, who managed a convincing win over bottom of the table Cool Running 47-26.

Heading into the mid-way point of the season, the Kings will look to shake-off their loss before playing third place Skywalkers.

A Skywalkers win would put them on equal points with the Kings, while a Kings win would see the top two teams again pull away.
