Old Girls putthe heat on brave Flames
As the finals edge closer, the Old Girls are continuing to be the team to beat with a 41-23 victory over the Flames on Monday, August 13.
In round 14 of competition, the match-up between the Old Girls and the Flames looked to be a close one and it certainly delivered during the first half.
It was an even start to the match as the lead switched back and forth between both teams.
The Flames managed to build an early lead with quick passes and great shooting from Jessica Howard and Lauren Johnston.
However, the Old Girls were not far behind putting great defensive pressure on the Flames and eventually taking the lead late in the quarter to leave the scores at 9-7.
The close contest continued in the second quarter as the Flames looked to make an early comeback and the Old Girls looked to extend their lead.
In her first game in two months, Rebecca Boni was in good form as goal keeper with Melody Miolin providing great back-up as goal defence.
Thanks to accurate shooting from Corryne Burnett and Christie Milenkovic, the Old Girls extended their lead until late goals from Howard brought the Flames to within just five points.
The Flames refused to surrender and continued to score in the third quarter, but the Old Girls were able to extend their lead.
The Flames began to fade in the final quarter as the Old Girls asserted their authority, eventually winning by 18 points.
Elsewhere in division 1, Towns defeated the Broome Sharks 54-15, and the Bullets smashed Cable Beach 75-10.
In division 2, the Broomies beat the Flames Blazers 44-24 and the Scorchers defeated the Scorps 52-27. In division 3, the Jija Bops won 43-26 against The Pirates, the Bullets held off Not Quite Diamonds 40-39, and in division 4, the Scorchers beat the Pinctada Pearls 52-12.
