Riders take on challenge

Fat-bike enthusiasts were given the chance to strut their stuff and earn a national title in the second Mountain Bike Australia Fat Bike National Championships on Friday.

In the lead-up to the Gibb Challenge, bikers rode from Cable Beach to Gantheaume Point, through the Minyirr trail system and then back to Cable Beach.

In all, eight categories were run from under-15s to elite competition.

Cayden Sullivan took out the under-15 category with a time of 51:50.8, while local young triathlete Jesse Evans won the under-19 division in 49:16.7.

Jayden Humphries won the experts category, finishing in just under an hour and Richard Harraway won the masters 1-2 with a time of of 1:00:40.8.

Dave Power took out the masters 3-4 division with a time of 01:02:11.6, Shane Hughes won the masters 5-6 division in 57:20.2, and Steve Ware won the masters 7-8 category in 01:00:24.0.

Out of the Elite competitors, Richard Volledregt took it out with a time of 54:16.8, edging out runner-up Evan Russel by less than 20 seconds.
