He might not have had his reindeer and sleigh but Santa Claus ventured down from the North Pole to pay Broome an early visit for a good cause.

Santa Claus joined the Roebuck Riders in their annual Toy Run, riding motorbikes, cars, buses and trucks around town on Saturday.

The group set off on their journey from Cable Beach, travelling through the major suburbs, Chinatown and Town Beach en route to the Broome Youth and Families Hub Drop-In Centre, where the toys were dropped off.

Along with Father Christmas, the Roebuck Riders were joined by Shire president Harold Tracey, councillor Chris Mitchell, Broome police officers Senior Sergeant Les Andrews and Sergeant Kevin Hall, the Men’s Shed and DFES.

The spectacle of many bikes and other vehicles lining the the Zanders carpark and travelling through town drew in plenty of curious onlookers, eager to know why Santa Claus had arrived in August.

In the lead up to the Toy Run, Roebuck Riders’ Andy Bubb said it was fantastic to see a large group of community members coming together to put a smile on childrens’ faces.
