Stars to the fore as records tumble

Records were broken and familiar faces shone on the Dash and Splash course in its second instalment for the second half of 2018.

Almost 50 competitors young and old gathered at the Broome Recreation and Aquatic Centre last Friday to take part in the second event of the three-event series.

Many of Broome’s star athletes shone on the course again, picking up more wins before the climax of the series in November. In the short course — consisting of a 2km run and a 200m swim — Aidan Burns won the junior male category in 11min. 20sec. and Calli Cook won the junior female division with a time of 12:40.

Daniel Ralph won the open male division in a time of 11:29, and Jen Ward won the open female category in a time of 13:57.

In the long course, which comprises a 4km run and a 400m swim, Travis Campbell won the junior male category in a time of 23:21, while Stevi Evans set a new record for the junior females in a time of 24:39. Jesse Evans won the open male division in 19:31, and Kirsten Wood won the open female division in a time of 25:45.

In the team events, Jon Moschion and Sara Davies set a new record for the long course in a time of 22:13.

Siblings Luke and Gemma Kent won the junior short course event in a time of 10:40.

Mother and son duo Jo and Josh Smallshaw were declared the second winners of the par-ent child event, finishing in a time of 13:33 in the shortcourse event.
