Dunsborough resident Tara Hawken to tackle Point to Pinnacle half-marathon to raise funds for brain cancer

A Dunsborough resident will take on a gruelling half-marathon next week to raise funds for a good cause. Tara Hawken will head to Hobart to take part in Sunday’s Point to Pinnacle half-marathon, which is often described as the world’s toughest half-marathon. She will be taking on the 21.1km event to raise funds and awareness for Carrie’s Beanies 4 Brain Cancer, a cause close to her heart. Ms Hawken was diagnosed with brain cancer 14 years ago, and her journey has been one of courage and persistence. “Running the Point to Pinnacle is not just a personal challenge for me; it’s a symbol of hope for everyone affected by brain cancer,” she said. “I want to show others that there is life beyond a diagnosis, and with determination and support, anything is possible.” Ms Hawken will run between Hobart and the summit of Mount Wellington, an incline during the race of 1270m in elevation. Her case is a rarity among those diagnosed with brain cancer, with only one in five living longer than five years post-diagnosis. It is also kills more people under the age of 40 than any other type of cancer.
