The RAC Rescue helicopter and emergency services are winching a child who was hurt while hiking on a mountain in the South West.

Emergency services were called just after 3pm on Thursday to help a child who hurt their foot while hiking Mount Hopkins in Broke.

The RAC Rescue helicopter and DFES State Emergency Service volunteers from Denmark and Manjimup attended the scene because the hiker was injured in an area that is difficult to access.

The child’s injuries are understood to be not life-threatening.

The injured child will be winched by the helicopter before being assessed by local medical crews upon the chopper’s landing.

The injury comes after a man in his 60s was injured earlier on Thursday when he fell while ascending the second-highest peak in the Stirling Range National Park.

The RAC Rescue chopper rescued him because the peak’s difficult terrain made it impossible for him to walk back down.
