Boulder and Kalgoorlie make up the bulk of 23 players named on Sunday night to carry the Goldfields Football League’s hopes at the women’s country championships in Mandurah, starting on Thursday.

The Tigers have eight players making the trip, alongside six from Kalgoorlie and five from 2024 premiers Mines Rovers.

Railways have four representatives.

GFL chair Eshe Christie said finalising a group was problematic because of work commitments and the school holidays, but was confident those selected would acquit themselves well.

“Regardless, we have a great side heading away,” she said.

The GFL will contest division two against Esperance, North Pilbara and Great Southern, while South-West defend their division one title against Kimberley, Great Northern and Peel.

“It is the pinnacle of women’s football in regional WA and we can’t wait to see what this year’s championships will bring,” Manager Country Football, South, Brent Sheridan said.

“With the championships entering their fifth year and now with two divisions, it’s clear that the quality of competition has grown year-on-year, along with an increase from five to eight teams over that time.”

Goldfields open their account on Thursday at 1pm against Esperance at Rushton Park.
