Twigg grabs dual success in 50-target championship battle
Eastern Goldfields Clay Target Club member Andrew Twigg’s consistency among an experienced field was rewarded with dual success in last month’s 50-target sporting clays championship.
Twigg was a convincing winner of the main event — carding a score of 45 out of 50 to lead the way from Matt Priest (39) and Quinn Marsh.
That initial success translated to overall honours when Twigg emerged with an overall score of 89 out of 100, as Priest (83) and Marsh (73) filled the minor placings.
Tristan Polmear showed his class in the skeet discipline, winning the club’s handicap championship with 49/50 — four shots clear of Priest.
Murray Kamo (44) was third, with the combined B/C grade trophy won by Mick Howley (40/50) from Jackie Twigg (35).
Also last month, the club hosted the State Ball Trap Championship that was captured by visiting shooter Jarrod Baker.
Baker’s score of 45/50 allowed him to edge-out Howley (43) and Priest (39), while the women’s championship went to Kristy Marsh (32/50).
Kamo led the veterans’ field with 38/50.
The State results were reversed in the club Ball Trap Championship when Howley carded a score of 45/50 to upstage Baker (43) and Kamo (36).
In the Continental club championship, life member Tony Free (44/50) enjoyed a victory over Marty Miles (43) and Howley (42).
Three others — Mark Lamont, Matt Iwankiw and Murray Kamo — were tied on 41, with Andrew Twigg the B/C leader with 35.
The 25-pair double rise event was won by Royce Normington (44/50) from Iwankiw, Howley and Free, all on 35, with the B/C field headed by Kamo (34) and Andrew Twigg (29).
