Anglers hungry for action

Sara HennessyBroome Advertiser

After a long weekend of blustery conditions backed up by a week of record-breaking June rainfall, Broome anglers were like kids to a lolly jar last Sunday when conditions improved, with those registered in the Broome Fishing Club’s annual Thready Shootout hungriest of them all to join in the action.

The unseasonal weather conditions of late may have confused the barra and triple tail of Roebuck Bay but didn’t seem to faze the salmon with 12 giant threadfin, 80 bluenose and two mulloway caught between the 40 registered anglers.

Out west, sailfish and pelagic action is still a little patchy and hopefully some of the bait schools will make their way a little closer to the coast soon.

I did hear of a nice black marlin estimated to be about the 120kg mark being caught by

Fiona off the boat Relentless who were out practising for the upcoming Billfish Tournament a couple of weeks ago.

Coming up again this Friday, June 14, is another one on the Mary Island Fishing Club’s famous mud crab races, so if you fancy a drive up to Derby, you will experience a truly unique Kimberley event.
