Artists honour talented prize winners

A highlight of the Derby Boab Festival, the Kimberley Art Prize again attracted a huge crowd of locals and visitors, who enjoyed live music from Colin and Kristy Pigram, Richard Rose and Tonchi and food from The Windmill Café, Jila Gallery Café and Café 417.

Shire of Derby West Kimberley president Elsia Archer announced the shire planned next year to also host the inaugural Kimberley Photographic Awards, an opportunity for more award categories in the Kimberley Art Prize.

Results:

Shire of Derby West Kimberley overall prize – Beverley Hornibrook, Woodside emerging artist – Lisa Uhl, Gecko Gallery indigenous award – Francis Dolby.

Art House oils and acrylics – Jean Elezovich, Mt Gibson Iron watercolours and pastels – Clive Moffat, Inpex photography prints – GT Sewell, Buru Energy photography canvas prints – Mieke Boynton, Inpex and Derby Furniture mixed media – Mark Norval.

Jila Gallery youth award – Lance Buckle, Old Broome Lockup Gallery local open – Gordon Barunga, Kimberley Diamond Company open non-Kimberley – Denise Walker.

Highly commended artists were Jane Dennis (mixed media), Laurie Crocker (mixed media), GT Sewell (photography print) and Jane Dennis (oils and acrylics).
