Bag Raiders

NICOLA KALMARBroome Advertiser

IF you had to guess where Bag Raiders come from, it would be fair to think from out of space, or from a galaxy far, far away. Maybe they just hang on Shooting Stars…

Either way, there’s no doubt their music is out of this world, and the guys are catapulting straight to Broome next weekend.

Bag Raiders are the combined talents of Jack Glass and Chris Stracey, and their fast growing reputation lends itself to the spectacular, visually dazzling and bizarre world they create with their music. Loved for their unique style and fantastical music videos, people around the world are hooked.

Having released their debut self-titled album last year, the guys have attracted a huge following with their pophouse style, and singles including Fun Punch, Turbo Love and Shooting Stars, as well as awesome remixes including Cut Copy, Midnight Juggernauts and Kid Sister.

Drawing on influences from everything and anything in music and beyond, Jack says they are compelled by different experiences.

“We are influenced by travelling, seeing new things, books, and movies,” he says.

“In the musical world we’re fascinated by pop music, and old funk and soul, bands like earth wind and fire and Bobby Caldwell.”

Producing fresh and innovative sounds with every performance, the guys are known for their unpredictable live shows.

“We’ve been touring since September. We’ve kept things fresh with our live show that is going to be different every time we do it,” Jack says.

“There’s a whole lot of variables we’ve thrown in to make it more interesting, and keep ourselves very busy on stage - singing, drumming, keyboards and synths - so there’s not a lot of time to get bored!”

With their impending debut visit to Broome, the guys promise to take their collaborative music to astronomical heights-but not before Jack indulges in a little Broome luxury.

“I want to eat some pearl meat. You guys have a lot of that right? I love that stuff.”

Right...Bag Raiders perform at Oasis on April 23.
