A group of rising ballroom dancers from Broome brought home gold when they competed in a prestigious international competition in Perth.

Nine ballroom dancing students wowed judges when they took part in the Dance Masters International competitions on April 7, which showcases the talents from ballroom dance studios throughout WA.

The excursion marked the first time Broome had been represented in the event.

They competed at the renowned Daele Fraser Dance Studio in Perth, judged by world adjudicator Daele Fraser herself. Every student won medals for their performance, with a total tally of 25, and an unprecedented 10 gold medals.

Prior to the competitions, the dance students sat examinations and passed with honours.

Broome ballroom instructor Kara Kelso said the youngsters had only started rehearsing for the competitions in October but had worked really hard to prepare.

Mrs Kelso said the youngsters were thrilled to have performed so well.

“They were a bit nervous once they started but got into the swing of things and did really well,” she said.
