Barbarians slain as Kulaz lead way

The men and women’s competitions of Broome touch football reached the halfway stage last Thursday as contenders for glory started to take shape in round three.

In the men’s competition, Kulaz maintained their 100 per cent winning record, beating Barbarians 6-4 in a close encounter.

The game was 2-2 at half-time, with players on both sides exhibiting their skills.

Kulaz proved too strong in the second-half. Milton Miskin and Grant Murray were the stand-out performers.

Broome Luggers looked convincing with a 7-2 win over the fancied Lion Tamers, making it two victories from three games.

Jacob Predo was the standout player for the victors, while Troy Tinker impressed for the Lions.

Bulls FC got their first win of the campaign, edging out social side Try Hards 8-6 in an end-to-end clash. Todd Matthews and John O’Sullivan were the most valuable players.

In the women’s competition, Panthers took the spoils in a nine-try thriller against Mixed Up, winning 5-4.

The game was 3-2 at half-time, with both sides looking to win the encounter.

Panthers ended up prevailing by the odd try, with Shannon Burgess inspiring her team to victory. Sharmal Mason was Mixed Up’s best.

Explodeaways were too strong for Mermaids winning 5-0. Elkie Perry was an important player in her team’s victory, while Kelly Bullen was best for Mermaids.
