Broome drivers go for a bit of grunt

Glenn CordingleyBroome Advertiser

South Perth may be the suburb where most of the State’s European luxury cars call home, but in Broome it’s about vehicles with a bit less leather and a lot more grunt, where a layer of mud and dust is a mark of honour and not a reason to head to the carwash.

Broome, where four-wheel-drives are outnumbered only by ants, has by far the highest number of Toyotas in WA’s regional area with 1821 registered here.

Broome Toyota dealer principal Darren Cobby says he sold 442 Toyotas last year, his best figure since taking over the dealership in 2009.

People were attracted to the brand’s reliability and resale value, he said.

Toyotas are also the most popular vehicles in the State, with 410,000 of them registered.

The figures have been compiled by the WA Department of Transport.

More than 1.97 million cars were registered in WA last year, up 3.3 per cent.
