Broome officer to run Melbourne Marathon

Nicola KalmarBroome Advertiser

A Broome copper will swap his boots for joggers next week.

First Class Constable Eoin Carberry is participating in the gruelling 42.2km Melbourne Marathon next Sunday to raise money for Camp Quality, a national children's family cancer charity.

The Irish-born policeman said he had always wanted to complete a marathon, and after enduring long periods of training and preparation, including squeezing extra runs in between his shifts, Const. Carberry said he was "looking forward" to the challenge.

He will run alongside his younger brother, Ciaron, an avid runner.

The married father of three said he chose Camp Quality as he was touched by the plight of young cancer sufferers.

"I've got three young boys and feel pretty blessed…you just feel for them so much," he said.

The Melbourne Marathon will be held next Sunday.

Cash donations can also be dropped off at Broome Police Station.
