Reigning West Kimberley Football League premiers Looma Eagles bounced back from a shock opening round defeat by kicking a last-gasp goal to beat closest rivals Cable Beach 12.10 (82) to 11.12 (78) on Saturday.

In a re-run of 2013's grand final at Haynes Oval, an end-to-end game suggested these two sides would be the frontrunners again this year.

The lead changed on countless occasions, but the Eagles claimed victory with a long-range goal from returning maestro Lyle Buck after the final siren.

Cable Beach did all the early running.

Sonny Dann led the line well and gave Beach the lead in the early exchanges, with Looma marksman Deromitt Wilson replying.

Beach's new recruits Daniel and Zenith Cox and Nathan Green all looked sprightly, while Dylan Pross had an industrious afternoon.

However, Looma went into the half-time break with a seven-point lead after Jonathon and Vincent Skinner both kicked well-worked majors.

In the third quarter, Cable Beach brought the score level at 8.9 (57) apiece, setting up a grandstand finish.

Beach looked to have won the game after kicking a major with only minutes remaining.

However, Looma had other ideas, with their talisman Buck kicking the winning goal at the death - the assured midfield general never looked like missing.

Looma veteran Dwayne Yamera had a good game in midfield, while Shaq Millindee's long-range clearances from the backline put his side's opponents under pressure.

Derby Tigers made the most of Looma's victory to move to the top of the ladder with an 11.11 (77) to 9.4 (58) victory over a plucky Bulls side.

Derby are now the only undefeated side in the competition.

Former West Coast Eagle Gerrick Weedon was named fairest and best for the victors, kicking three goals in the process, while Sam La Porta slotted three majors for Bulls.

Bidyadanga Emus got into the lead against a much-improved Peninsula Bombers early in the first quarter and were in the ascendancy throughout to win 15.11 (101) to 9.9 (63).

The community side will be a real threat this season and welcomed back key midfielder Angelo Thomas for this fixture.

However, the star of the show was young attacker Courtney Thomas, who kicked an unprecedented nine goals in his side's win.

Bombers battled well, with David Cox kicking four majors for them.

In the Friday night match at BRAC, Towns FC got off the mark with a 10.5 (65) to 8.10 (58) win over Saints.
