Broome’s Birdy’s Lawn Mowing and Garden Maintenance has become the first business from the Kimberley town to be recognised by the Australian Smart Business Awards.

The horticulture organisation was selected as the winner of the Customer Service Excellence category for the month of June and will now go into the running for the annual awards.

The awards are run through national organisation Business Owners And Managers Association, who were impressed with the Broome company’s credentials.

“Birdy’s Lawn Mowing’s after-sales service stood out in their nomination, and we were very impressed with the company’s attention to detail,” association secretary Luke Chiodo-Gurr said.

“Not many businesses focus on after-sales services, especially in the trades, and this was where Birdy’s Lawn Mowing excelled.”

Business owner Brendon Bird started the company alone in 2006. The organisation has now expanded to include two full-time staff, with another starting soon.

The company has also boosted its equipment stock.

“I would like to thank all clients past and present, including local property managers, for their support,” Mr Bird said.

“Special thanks go to my brilliant Balinese team, Wayan and Putu, who have been with me for a year and will continue to work with Birdy’s for many years to come."
