Casey’s golden run continues with treble

Trainer Sean Casey’s great start to the 2013 racing season continued last Saturday, when he landed a winning treble to follow on from a double at the opening meeting.

With a big team of horses in work, he looks set for an outstanding year. He won the first two races on the program with Steel Business and Rock of Honour and then took out the main event when the speedy Pribyl.

This winner was ridden by his son Jake, and downed the shortpriced favourite Plain Lucky to give the young apprentice his third win of the season.

It was also a successful start to the season for jockey Willie Arnold, who punched home three winners on the day. He rode Casey’s first two winners and then won on Revy, a pick-up ride, for trainer Darryn Pateman.

Arnold missed the opening meeting of the season, and though his services will be keenly sought after by other trainers, Casey will have first call on the experienced rider who is his stable jockey.

Darryn Pateman had a disappointing opening day but he bounced back with a winning double on Saturday.

Godulfi, carrying topweight of 61.5kgs, improved on his first-up failure when he beat the favourite Orosasso by a nose in race three and give jockey Peter Farrell his first win of the season.

Pateman followed up in race four with Arnold having an armchair ride on Revy, who won with ridiculous ease.

Last season’s leading trainer Tom Pike tasted success for the first time this year when Queen of Franks got up in the final few strides to beat The Factor in race six.
