Charity buy ticks off bucket list trip

Gareth McKnightBroome Advertiser

A “once-in-a-lifetime” week-long Kimberley escape sold for $25,000 as part of a charity auction was enjoyed by Victorian couple John and Janice Skinner in late May.

The pair attended the 2012 Red Ball in Melbourne last year — one of the high-profile annual charity events and fundraising efforts of the Fight Cancer Foundation.

Australian actor Hugh Jackman is one of the patrons of the cause and performed on stage at the event to ensure a packed crowd for the charity auction.

One of the items up for auction was a packaged holiday and decadent cruise in Broome and the Kimberley, courtesy of North West Tourism, Cable Beach Club Resort and True North Cruises.

The Skinners said a cruise in the Kimberley was on their bucket list.

“We were literally blown away with the range and variety of wonderful excursions,” Mr Skinner said.

This year’s Red Ball will be held in Melbourne on October 19 at Crown’s Palladium Ballroom.
