Three Kimberley community organisations will benefit from $230,000 in social enterprise funding announced by Colin Barnett.

The Premier said the most significant grant would go to the Kularri Regional Community Development Employment Project, which will get $150,000 to re-establish the Beagle Bay Market Garden.

The Beagle Bay Women’s Group will receive $30,000 and Low Carbon Kimberley has qualified for $50,000 as part of a package of $295,000 in social enterprise grants announced by the Premier.

Foodbank was granted $65,000 to set up a catering division.

“The Social Enterprise Fund was established early last year with the aim of increasing the number, effectiveness and efficiency of social enterprises in Western Australia,” Mr Barnett said.

The Beagle Bay Market Garden will produce a variety of fruit and vegetables through the year that will be primarily sold to the locals at Beagle Bay and other communities.

Low Carbon Kimberley seeks to develop community based renewable energy projects.

Funding will support business planning.
