Derby, Roebuck in final
A comfortable win over arch rivals Roebuck was not quite enough for Mangrove to secure a berth in the Divers Tavern 20/20 Big Bash Final.
The unbeaten Derby will meet Roebuck in the final at noon at St Mary’s Oval this Sunday.
Roebuck batted first against Mangrove and compiled a modest 5-110, with Joe Wevers 38 not out and Joel Unicomb 36 best with the bat.
For Mangrove, A Anajit took bowling honours with 2-15.
Mangrove knew they needed a big total, without losing too many wickets, to grab a finals spot and they made a great fist of the challenge, compiling 165 from their 20 overs for the loss of four wickets.
Joel Handford top scored with 63 not out, while Dean Holder made 56 not out. Wevers was the best bowler for Roebuck with 3-17.
Derby continued their fine form with a solid win over Dirty Dozen. Batting first, the Dozen only posted a modest total of 9-88 against tight bowling from Derby.
Scott Hanna top scored for the Dozen with 25, while Lincoln Matrozis made 17.
Chris Plummer starred with the ball for Derby with 4-18. Gobro Pickering took 2-17 and Luke Denham 2-8.
In reply, Derby started well before losing four wickets in quick succession.
However, they recovered to rein in the Dozen’s total in the 17th over before going on to score a tidy 4-120.
Pickering top scored with a hard hitting 66 not out while Vince Pryaard gave good support with 17 not out.
The Dozen had four individual wicket takers.
The President’s XI were cock-ahoop after recording their first win in three seasons in the 20/20 competition when they easily beat the Wanderers.
On the small ground at Roebuck Primary School the President’s XI made 7-170.
In reply, the Wanderers were all out for 118.
For the President’s XI, Wian Jensen Van Rensburg made 54 and took 2-13, while Kev Collard made 28.
For the Wanderers, Dale Bin Sulaiman top scored with 20 and claimed two wickets.
