Detective's eye-watering Movember challenge

He may have a reputation for tearing strips off criminals, but this time around, no- nonsense Broome copper Brett Baddock might have to prove how tough he really is after volunteering to undergo a body wax for charity.

Detective Senior Sergeant Baddock agreed to the eye-watering challenge for Movember - the global, month-long event held to raise vital funds and awareness for prostate and testicular cancer.

Traditionally, men grow a moustache for the 30 days in November to support the Movember Foundation, but Det. Sen. Sgt. Baddock fancied a more hair-raising challenge.

He has agreed to have a body wax from the neckline down - excluding intimate areas - if the community stumps up $5000 for Movember.

Organiser Senior Constable Lee Simpson, who has run Movember events for the last five years, said the brave copper came up with the idea last month as a way to drum up big support for the cause.

Sen. Const. Simpson said the Movember campaign become a passion over the years after a few of her colleagues were affected by prostate cancer.

This year's event was particularly poignant for her after a close relative in England was diagnosed with terminal prostate cancer.

Sen. Const. Simpson said the news was "devastating" for family and friends and urged men to have a check-up. She encouraged the Broome community to support Det. Sen. Sgt. Baddock and said anyone donating $50 or more would receive a free stubby holder while stocks last.
