Donations allow club to buy a new trailer

Money from a local business and the Shire has allowed Broome Surf Lifesaving Club to replace a 20 year old trailer which was originally made to hold equipment for the club’s 10 young members.

Worth $10,000, the new trailer has been custom-built by Ocean Pearl Marine and Aluminium to conveniently carry all the equipment the club now needs down on Cable Beach for its Nippers squad, now 148-strong.

Broome Surf Lifesaving Club president Rob Aristei said the club was very appreciative of the Broome Shire’s contribution of $3500 through its community grants program, and of everyone who bought tickets in the club’s raffle, which raised $6000.

Ocean Pearl Marine and Aluminium’s Phil Cooke said he was happy to do have done the job to help out a club that made such a positive contribution to the Broome community.

Broome Surf Lifesaving Club’s junior activities officer Jodie Lynch, who runs the Nippers, said the new trailer would be great to provide shade down on the beach during their sessions, and accommodate all the equipment they needed.

“Especially during the huge tides we get, sometimes we’re starting almost a kilometre out, so this will help keep the equipment mobile up and down the beach,” Ms Lynch said.
