Evans wins prize for croc creation

Ned Evans took inspiration for his latest Lego creation from what he sees around him and it is easy to see where his idea for the Kimberley Boab Crocodile Attack came from.

The creation won eight-year-old Ned $50 worth of Lego from Broome Toyworld after he won the Broome division of the National Lego Building Competition.

He said the scene he created showed two people spearing fish on a river, under the shade of a boab tree as they were circled by crocodiles. Broome Toyworld owner Des Matthews presented Ned with his prize – a new box of Lego – and congratulated the youngster on his entry, a great representation of the Kimberley.

The winner of the national competition was nine-year-old Aaryin Mills-Crockford from Tweed Heads in north-eastern New South Wales, who created a Mixed-up Medieval Castle which included a working drawbridge.

The grand prize for the competition was a trip to Legoland in California and Ned said he would aim for the top spot next year.

His Lego mentor Tom Allen, who helped in the creation of Ned’s entry, was keen to espouse the benefits of Lego play.

“It’s a new toy everyday, I think from four pieces of Lego, you can make 370,000 different creations,” he said.

“You can make all kinds of different creations.”
