Event to raise vital money

Broome Advertiser

An impressive array of artworks from well-known local artists will go under the hammer this weekend as the Environs Kimberley Art Auction returns.

The major fundraising event, in its ninth year, showcases donated pieces of work from artists including Jimmy Pike, Claire Beausein and Angela Bakker to raise money for conservation.

This year, art lovers had the chance to take part in Environs Kimberley’s inaugural online art auction, showcasing pieces from artists including Butcher Cherel and Pippin Drysdale.

Auction spokeswoman Christine Elsasser said the event was a major fundraiser for Environs Kimberley.

“While the spotlight is on the art, the proceeds of the evening will go to an important cause, protecting the Kimberley environment from over-exploitation and combating climate change,” she said.

“We are very fortunate to have the support of so many artists and local galleries.”

Ms Elsasser said the Kimberley environment was facing greater threats than ever before with unprecedented numbers of mining proposals.

Chris Maher and Tony Hutchinson will reprise their roles as auctioneers on the night, which promises to be a thrilling experience for art lovers and others as they battle to bid for their favourite artworks while lending support to the environment.
