Exhibit matches Aboriginal art with beautiful women

KATE BASTIANSBroome Advertiser

Stunning photographic art showcasing some of WA’s most important Aboriginal sites as well as work from Kimberley artists was exhibited in Los Angeles during the past week.

The Nomad Two Worlds exhibition is the brainchild of Perth-born fashion photographer Russell James and aims to help bridge the cultural divide between Aboriginal and nonindigenous Australians.

The week-long exhibition also featured a symposium comparing native American and Aboriginal history and exploring cultural projects.

James teamed up with Aboriginal artists, such as the Kimberley’s Clifton Bieundurry, to produce a multimedia art project incorporating photographs of Australia’s most breathtaking landscapes and beautiful women.

“It was entirely inspired by me growing up in Perth and spending time up in Derby,” James said.

Perth’s Nicole Trunfio is among the models photographed, as are Miranda Kerr and Heidi Klum.

Nyoongar elder Richard Walley and WA child health expert Fiona Stanley were among the speakers during the exhibition.
