Fired up for the season

Broome Advertiser

Broome Speedway drivers had had a very busy off season when a team of Modified production and Super Sedan drivers headed down south to take on the best in the State in the GWN Modified Sedan Series and the South Side Engine Centre Super Sedan Summer Series.

Kodee Brown was the best of the Super Sedan Drivers claiming a trifecta of third places in the series, State title, and the Motorplex championships.

“This year the competition was at a whole new level, we came away with a round win in Margaret River and a few podiums,” Brown said.

The McCorry Brown Earthmoving team is to take delivery of a brand new dominator race car and Nascar engine package and hope to begin testing later this season in Broome in readiness for the next series and State title.

Phil Barton, Warren Minshull, and Brent Halliday also competed in the State title and selected rounds, with Halliday finishing fourth in his new Pontiac behind Brown at the State title earlier in the year.

Broome Speedway president Mick Johnson also travelled far and wide completing the eight round series of the GWN Modified Sedan Series finishing a close second and claiming a round win in the grand finale event at Collie.

“We had an up and down season this year with a few car issues, so to finish second we can’t complain,” Johnson said.

“We now are concentrating on the upcoming State title at our Broome track and hope to go one better.”

Jeff Steel and Ray Clifton also competed in selected rounds and aim to grab the title on home soil over the weekend of June 4-5.

Broome Speedway Fires up for the opening round this Saturday, with Quad Bikes, Top Star and New Star Juniors, Street Stocks, Modifieds, and Super Sedans.
